 ::: FAQ

1.What is LPG / Auto gas ?

The term LPG stands for Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) refers to varieties of hydrocarbons mainly Propane(C3H8) and Butane(C4H10) derived from crude oil distillation or other refining processes, being a gas at normal temperature and pressure but which become liquid with either a moderate increase in pressure or a moderate drop in temperature or both.

2.Why Should I Convert?

Not only is LPG an environmentally friendly Fuel as it produces fewer harmful pollutants and less noise, but on average it’s half the price of
Regular petrol. With other possible benefits such as reduced engine wear extra life to engine oil. Overall running costs for LPG vehicles are up to 40% less

3. Can all vehicles be converted to Auto Gas?

Almost any petrol vehicle can be converted to operate on Auto gas/LPG. Cars with carburetor as well as Multi Point Fuel Injection as well as cars with catalytic converters can be used to operate on Auto gas.

4. How long dose the conversion process take?

Most engines can be covered to bi-fuel but if you have any doubts it is best to talk to a qualified Installer

5. What happens in the process of conversion?

A second independent fuller system with its own tank is added to the car, often in boot or in place of the spare wheel.

6. Will i lose boot space?

Gas tanks are available in a range of different sizes, and loss of space can be kept to a minimum by installing doughnut shaped tank into the spare wheel well.

7. What are the different systems that are available?

The conventional single point injection system and fully computer controlled multi point sequential injection system. (3rd Generation kit)

8. Does it matter which system i have installed in my car?

Yes. It's crucial to have the right system installed. All conversions are dependent upon the age and type of vehicle you have an eldercare vehicle will have a different system to a molder fuel injected one. 3G kit is suitable for modem compute controlled vehicles.

9. Does the equipment come with a warranty?

Yes.1 year for the equipment and 10 year for the LPG tank. Also within the first year all services are free.

10. Can the system be transferred to another car?

Yes

11.Will my car's performance be affected?

There is a negligible loss of power but its very hard to notice.

12.What is the mileage i can expect from a tank of LPG?

A liter of LPG will tank you around 80% of the way that petrol would take you,but it still works out cheaper because LPG averages half the price of petrol.

13.How will i know when to refuel?

There is a fuller indicator inside your vehicle that indicate how much LPG is in you tank. Jest like petrol LPG is bought by the liter and pumped into the tank through the filling point and the hose.

14.Where can i fill up with LPG ?

There are 17 refilling stations including Kandy, Galle & Kurunegala.

15.Is it possible to add the wrong fuel to the wrong tank?

This is impossible because each filling point is different to the other so the LPG filling point only accepts a LPG hose

16.Can i overfill the tank?

No. because the LPG tank is lifted with an automatic shut-off valve that will prevent overfilling.

17.Can LPG damage or affect my engine ?

No. As long as you use proper equipment and follows the maintenance instructions there is no harm to your engine. LPG is a cleaner burning fuel and will reduce the engine wear and reduce the engine wear and tear.

18.What type of servicing does it require ?

You must continue with your routine car servicing and a qualified installer should check your LPG system a yearly basis within the first year you can have services free of charge.

19.Do lots of people use LPG ?

Latest Estimates claim that there are around 25,000 vehicle have converted by LAUGFS and this number is constantly increasing.

20. What type of conversion kits are available?

2nd and 3rd generation conversion kits, primarily based on the Vaporizer systems. Install electronic kits suitable for both Carburetor and Electronic Fuel Injection type vehicles which provides an enhanced performance and safety features

21. How safe is Auto Gas Fuel?

Auto gas is proven to be safest automotive fuel worldwide. The Autogas tanks/cylinders are made of high quality steel and reinforcement which do not crack-up in case of accident. Auto LPG tanks are manufactured from ¼-inch steel. They are resistant to deformation and puncture.
Also in case of leakage the gas escapes into the open air and does not remain in the engine to catch fire. Also the LPG cylinders/tanks are placed horizontally in a car and the adaptor allows the liquid to flow all the way up to the solenoid valves before converting into gas. Safety mainly depends on the quality of components like the PRV, Solenoids etc and the fitting. We provide ISO-9001 certified products which are proven worldwide and have been exported to over 45 countries since 1958.

More over in the installed kits, a device called Multi valve which is placed between the gas tank and the fuel line. This valve has number of facilities including excess fuel cutoff function in case of an accident or breakage in the gas lines. Further with the help of this valve gas lines could be manually shut off in an emergency.

22. Can the A/C be also run with gas?

The car engine which is run with Auto gas generates optimum power to easily take the load of the A/C compressor even with full laden load.

23. What would be the affect on the engine?

Usage of LPG can increase the engine life up to three times because of the dry and gaseous nature of propane. Also, the almost total lack of carbon residue deposited inside the engine keeps the engine and the engine oil cleaner and reduces the internal wear and tear of the engine.
Tests and practical records maintained by LPG users have shown following advantages.

Longer spark plug and oil life
Increased engine smoothness
No de carbonizing problems

24. What happen if I run out of Gas?

No problem. These are duel fuel systems, i.e. you can switch over the car to Petrol and vice -versa by means of a simple electronic switch instantly without even stopping the car. The switch is conveniently located on the dashboard of the car.

25.Would the performance, top speed be the same as Petrol?

Tests shows that cars on Auto gas generate 10% less power which translated into 3% loss of top speed. This however is negligible and can be compensated with proper tuning by advancing the ignition of the car and increasing the idling. A proper conversion and tuning by an technically qualified LAUGFS engineer would ensure that the car performs almost the same as that to Petrol.

26. How much time would the installation take? Would there be any changes to the car?

The installation of the kit is quite precise. A proper job would take about 4-6 hours depending of the type and condition of the car. There would be no changes or modifications to the engine whatsoever and only additional devices installed with minimal drilling etc.

27.Can the car be used on Highways, Hilly regions, bad roads?

The kits provided by us are very durable, proven and reliable. We use latest technology and the car can be used in any terrain from desert to plains and hills. There is no problem to run the car on Sri Lankan highways (which are full with pot holes).

28. Is it safe?

Yes, the reason is that compared with petrol LPG is equally safe when handled carefully. The equipment used are made to UN safety regulations and are tested and certified by expert international bodies.

29. Will I get more mileage?

Actually you will not gain more mileage by converting to LP GAS. You will have almost the identical mileage for a much lower cost.
Ex: One liter Petrol Rs 80/= give you 10 Km
One liter of LPG for Rs 50/= will give you 8-9 km (the saving is the cost) Yes you do get more mileage!

30. Do you fix a new tank or can gas be fed to my car's petrol tank?

We have a specially imported LP gas tank that will fit into the boot and comes in two shapes cylindrical and spare wheel (Doughnut) shape. Your petrol tank will remain as it is.

31. How is the standard of the equipments ?
